Dedication/Funding
Not too long ago, I inherited a small sum from my deceased parents.
After much thought on the matter, I decided that (no matter how
much I might personally need that money) I had an obligation to
honor their memory by seeing to it that it was used for furthering
some of the ideals that were central to their lives.
For me, three of them stood out in particular:
- The main purpose in each of our lives is to make the world
a better place, and that each of us (no matter how small our
roles might be) is blessed with certain special gifts that we
have a responsibility to nurture and use for that purpose.
- Every American owes a great debt to those who fought and died
throughout our nation's history to secure our freedoms, and the
best way we can repay that debt is to take our responsibilities
as citizens more seriously.
- Ethical principles aside, there is no
room in a democracy for anyone who lacks the ability to compromise.
So, to make a long story short, I am using my inheritance to
fund this and similar websites that are dedicated to giving American
citizens a viable, nonpartisan means of improving the operation
of their United States Congress. Contrary to popular opinion, however,
even simple sites such as this are far from free to operate, and
significant costs can be accrued over time.
When the money runs out, which it inevitably will, I shall run
hat in hand to seek wealthy benefactors or find some other means
of acquiring funding, and will ask for donations from the general
public only as a last resort.
Respectfully,
Tom Foreman
